São Antonio I Statuette by Prazeres Côta - 7'' is backordered and will ship as soon as it is back in stock.
The works of Prazeres Côta, like those of her mother Júlia, reflect rural life in the Minho region, its traditional characters, and the influence of religious or mythological beliefs.
This figurine represents the Catholic Saint Anthony (São Antonio). It is the most authentic expression of Prazeres Côta’s personal and creative world—she shapes clay in a naive style, portraying what she observes around her.
What I love
- A figurine that stands between folk craft and naïve art.
- A whimsical and naive portrayal of Saint Anthony.
- A one-of-a-kind piece, signed by the artist.

More informations?
The Côta family is the most iconic and representative family in the figurative art tradition of Barcelos and the Minho region in northern Portugal.
Prazeres, one of Júlia Côta’s daughters, continues the tradition started by her great-grandfather, João Domingos Côta da Rocha—the creator of the famous Portuguese Rooster (Galo de Barcelos).
Named “New Talent of the Year” at the 2018 Feira de Barcelos, she was recently featured in the "Geração Côta" exhibition at the Pottery Museum, which now displays several of her works from both the museum’s own collection and private collectors.
